Nasdaq cooperates with Ho Chi Minh City to develop International Financial Center

On the morning of October 10, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc received and worked with Mr. Robert H. McCooey - Vice President of Nasdaq Stock Exchange.

Nasdaq is known as one of the largest stock exchanges in the United States (along with the New York Stock Exchange NYSE).

At the meeting, Chairman Phan Van Mai shared that Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the establishment of the Vietnam International Financial Center, which has been approved by the National Assembly under Resolution 222.

Accordingly, the Chairman wishes to cooperate comprehensively to build an international financial center of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on areas where Nasdaq has strengths such as technology, international connections, and especially prestige and trust with investors in mobilizing cash flows from all over the world .

“HCMC and Nasdaq have agreed on the principle of signing a memorandum of understanding during my upcoming visit to the US (expected from October 15 to 20). This memorandum will be an important start for our more specific work to realize the construction of a Vietnam international financial center in HCMC,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc.

Mr. Robert H. McCooey, Vice President and Head of Global Capital Markets of Nasdaq, said that Nasdaq's strength does not lie in "tangible" infrastructure (such as real estate) but lies mainly in technology, people and building trust with the international investment and financial community.

Therefore, Mr. Robert H. McCooey sees a lot of potential and real opportunities in Ho Chi Minh City. He expressed his hope that the International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City will become the leading financial and technological center in the region.

Nasdaq commits to accompany the international financial center in Ho Chi Minh City in specific tasks and activities such as personnel training, financial technology transfer, investment calling, etc. In the immediate future, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding in October during the visit and work of the Chairman of the Committee in the United States.
